Cross-language review of published legal texts

If you publish a privacy policy, terms of use or a legal notice in several languages, those versions were written at different times by different people. Whether they still say the same thing is something nobody checks.

What we do

We compare your published language versions against one another, page by page, and report every place where they diverge: a clause present in one language and absent from another, an address or a retention period that differs, a page that serves another language's text, markup that reached the reader.

We work from what is published. We open the same pages your readers open, in every language you publish them in, and read them against each other. To do that at scale we wrote a tool that compares published versions against one another rather than against a source file, because for texts like these no source file exists any more.

What you get

A report in which every finding is stated precisely enough for you to confirm it yourself in a minute: the page, the language, the sentence, and what the other versions say in the same place. Nothing to install, no account, no platform.

450 euro for one document in all the languages you publish it in, up to 50,000 words in total. Above that, 0.015 euro per word per language.

One further run after you have made your corrections, within thirty days, is included, so that you can see they took.

Divergence is not a one-off. It appears whenever one language version is edited and the others are not, which is how most of what we find arose. What we sell is the check, not a list of today's errors.

Where a lawyer reads

A machine finds addresses, numbers, omissions and untranslated passages. It cannot tell you that one version says consent may be withdrawn and another does not. That reading is done by Artur Arakelian, a lawyer by training, and only on the passages the report marks: 100 euro an hour.

We report divergences, not legal conclusions. What they mean for you is for you and your counsel.

Translation

Where a version has to be rewritten rather than corrected, we translate: 0.11 euro per source word per language, the same rate for every language we work in.

Who does this

The work is carried out by Artur Arakelian, a lawyer by training. The contracting party and supplier is Liudmila Scortescu, registered as self-employed in Chisinau, Moldova. Her full registration and postal details are on every contract and invoice we issue.

Our portfolio is public and it is the only one we have: a legal corpus we maintain in nine languages, around 958,000 translated words from a Russian master, including Georgian, Hindi, Arabic and Chinese. It is published at earth-lings.org.
